Mobility Scooters
Under the Road Safety Act (1986) Mobility Scooters are not defined as motor vehicles. They must have a maximum capable speed of 10km/h on level ground and are to be used only by people with an injury, disability or medical condition which means they are unable to walk or have difficulty in walking.
Mobility Scooters are designed to be used on footpaths. The road rules that apply to users of motorised mobility devices are the same road rules that apply to pedestrians. A helmet is not required.
